Smell the Spooky witches!

We get the chance of meeting the witches twice in a year, at the end of April and again on 31st October, All Hallow's Eve. They are out at nights to join the Devil's party. Smell the mystery of magical mischiefs, and spells around you as Halloween is knocking at your door to give you scary feel. Put your clothes on wrong side and walk in a backward direction. It is believed that this technique really works. You can meet the witches at midnight if you follow the tips. Be aware of black cats as witches get transformed to cats very often. And if the cat is a black colored one, then, it is surely ominous.

When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
The very first two lines of Shakespeare's Macbeth give out a eerie feel and their meeting has got nothing to do with good works. It is all about their plans on how to cast a spell on others or how to transform them in different forms. Witches are known for spoiling the good deeds of others. Nobody seems to be quite comfortable with witches even in the modern scientific era. The popular poems are based on this concept,
There's a ghost who haunts my bedroom,
A witch whose face is green. [Spooks]
or,
I see witches in the air...
Let's run, and run, and run.[Five Little Pumpkin Sitting On A Gate]

There are certain interesting rituals which are followed to keep the evil spirits and witches away.
Keep a burning candle inside a jack- o- lantern. Take care that it does not go out by itself. If it happens, then, it is an ominous sign. Witches can come and take you to the Devil's land.
Keep safe distance from the persons who were born on Halloween as they can both see and talk to spirits.
Do not let the bats fly around your house. It is taken as death omen.
But if you want to play with spells and magic, then, use nuts on Halloween as magic charms. British people believe that devil was a nut gatherer.

Let's try to define witch. A witch can be either male or female. Male witches are known as wizards, sorcerers, warlocks or simply magicians. Their main job is to practice witchcraft. And witchcraft can be defined as an act of casting spell on others. Witches follow various methods to disrupt others. It can be either through meditation or chanting, physical rituals or through incense preparations. Who can forget the chanting of witches in Macbeth while they were going round and round the cauldron? Witchcraft is basically all about influencing another person's body or property against his or her will. But you can be friendly with white witches as they are believed to be the most benevolent lot.

Modern Christians associate witchcraft with Satanism and it is nothing but a false religion to them. Black magic beliefs of the African slaves are now getting associated with witches. To be very simple, witchcraft has its origin in Wicca, a nature based religion. Wicca come from the word wicce which means the wise or to bend. Witches are also known as pagan magic makers. And this can be the reason for why Christians are against witches. Marlow has given us a strict warning in Doctor Faustus on the practice of necromancy. It is about the calling of spirits or evocation of the same. And witches practice the magic of occult and that is very close to necromancy.

It is funny that Christians do not mind to put up the witch masks on Halloween. Either they paint up their faces or go for scary masks for Halloween dress party. Wear the musk with a black robe and broomstick made from twigs for a better effect. The spooky smell of witches is in the air...enjoy your Halloween!
