The Accidents Capital of India

9,000 accidents a year, in Delhi alone

There is no better topic to talk about other than road traffic and that to when it comes to talk about our own country . Well , after 50 years of Indian Independence I could say I have some mixed feelings about the conditions of road traffic in India.

Lets us start with our very capital Delhi, well traveling in DTC bus is an adventure of its own class and flair. The driver would leave no stone unturned to make your first visit, may be your last, a perfect hunting safari that would lead you to your destination in few minutes except for the external factors like jam or an accident of your own (God forbid) or of some others acting as a spoil sport in this very adventure of its own kind . If u dont believe me , check out this According to Delhi Police, about six million violations of traffic rules were registered in the past three years and over 9,000 accidents take place in Delhi every year. On the contrary there are views like this A Western diplomat here remarked: 'I am not appalled by the number of road accidents in Delhi. I am amazed why many more accidents don't occur despite such rampant indiscipline!'. Should we be ashamed or proud of ourselves, well I dont know??? .

Lets take you to Mumbai, don't worry the situation is not good its even worse and actually crossed its heights. In Mumbai, I guess after rain its the Mumbai traffic that keeps haunting. As compared to Delhi, in Mumbai people spend more money on fuel than on food and of course they have ample of time to spend to reach their destination. In the upcoming list Bangalore is making huge turnarounds, its catching up fast.

The heartening fact about Indian traffic its very un-biased. It has space for cows, elephants, heavy trucks, buses, official cars, camels, light trucks, buffalo, jeeps, ox-carts, private cars, motorcycles, scooters, auto-rickshaws, pigs, pedal rickshaws, goats, bicycles (goods- carrying), handcarts, bicycles (passenger-carrying), dogs, pedestrians all on the same lane. Well, the mantra behind is the open heart of our Indian Traffic where every Tom, Dick and Harry finds space to flout the rules the way he feels and travel with a swagger and attitude.

Several steps were taken in the rein of BJP, the very mammoth road building project, the upcoming Delhi Metro can be good panacea, the making of flyovers can also be good tool to curb the deplorable condition of the Indian road Traffic. But, you see its the change of the minds not the architecture which could be a panacea for all the troubles. Lets hope for the best and work in worst!!!!!!!
